We are grateful to the many donors in the U.S. and abroad for their generous support. Partnerships, which we work to develop and expand, are vital. RISE has pursued strategic in-country partnerships to help build more schools through Sustainable Development Programs, and collaborates with local Administrators and the Ministry of Education.
Partnership with Azule Energy, a BP and Eni company (formerly BP Angola)…
BP Angola has partnered with RISE since 2012 – a long and successful history of working together with significant, tangible results. BP Angola, now Azule, has funded the construction of 21 schools, 4 community and medical centers, and 5 school libraries, impacting the lives of thousands of children, their families and communities.
What has been accomplished?
- Construction of schools: Limbuata, Libata, Vacaria, Kuquema, Lumela, Funda, Viana, Bocoio, Cacuaco, Quipungo, Cicolo, Tomas Ferreira, Lar do Patriota, Casssualala, Mitcha, Santa Teresinha, Calombinda, 11th of November, Cabaia, Chimukua, Dango, and Bela Vista
- Community / Medical: Lobito Community Center, Dom Bosco Community Center Luena, Canata Medical Center, Sambizanga Medical Institute
- School libraries: Jimba-Silili, Kuquema, Bundiangolo, Tomas Ferreira, Bocoio Secondary School
- BP Angola Investment Total: $13,304,120 USD
- Schools – $11,002,960 USD
- Medical / Community Centers – $2,101,160
- Libraries – $200,000
Partnership with Educate A Child and ExxonMobil…
In 2017, RISE committed to build schools to give 24,000 MORE out-of-school-children access to education through a co-funding partnership with Educate A Child (EAC), a program of Education Above All, and the generous support of one of their resource partners, ExxonMobil.
What has been accomplished?
- Schools: 26 schools were built between 9/2017 and 6/2020 (School photos and locations)
- Students: 28,784 MORE kids have access to education each year (target was 24,000 OOSC)
- Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E): A substantial M&E component has been implemented, tracking the enrollment, attendance and retention of the 24,000 individual students
- Project Investment Total: $8,089,177
- EAC – $999,640
- ExxonMobil – $2,000,000
- RISE US / Angola – $5,089,537
The project was to be completed by June 30, 2020, and construction of the schools was finished. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were closed 3/2020 and did not reopen until 2/2021. OOSC were enrolled through 6/2021 and the project was closed.
Ongoing Partnership with ExxonMobil…
In 2023, ExxonMobil and RISE co-funded and partnered to build a school at Macala, Namibe Province. ExxonMobil is currently funding the construction of two schools in the Cazenga Municipality, Luanda Province, with construction implemented by RISE Angola. Between 2023-2025, ExxonMobil financed two small pilot projects designed to enhance the quality of education and improve learning outcomes.
