overview
Vila Graça is a village outside of the town of Kuito in central Angola. Some kids at Vila Graça meet for class in a temporary tin structure, but over 1000 children are in need of a school. The community has little, and most live off the land. They are in dire need, and the Angolan Ministry of Education requested that we consider this location for our next school. The need was communicated at our 2019 benefit, and funds donated were combined with those from Educate A Child to move forward with an 8-classroom school. The team arrived in November to lay out the site, and the children were fascinated and thrilled to know that they would have a school!
The school was dedicated on September 17 with joy and gratitude. The Bie Governor, Kuito Administration and Ministry of Education officials, RISE Angola, teachers, parents, students and the community came together, with masks and socially distanced in response to the pandemic, to celebrate.
There is a well drilled near the school site.
