overview
Funds raised by Team RISE 2012 were wired to Angola in November 2012, construction began immediately and a beautiful school was dedicated on February 25th, 2013. Ungongo is a 4-classroom school and was built on the ruins of the foundation of the original school, which was destroyed during the war. The dedication was a special celebration – in the midst of the singing, it began to pour and so people packed into a classroom and on the porch. Government and MOE officials, Adriano’s 4th grade teacher as this is where he went to school as a boy, students, families and the community attended. There was a cake in honor of RISE’s 10 year anniversary of building schools. The cake was cut into small bite-size pieces and shared by the crowd.
Rural kids deserve an education and a building in which to learn! One of the village leaders shared that it was as if “the school had dropped from heaven.”
