overview
The goal of the Angolan government is to build a significant number of schools between 2025-2027 to begin to address the lack of infrastructure across the country. The initial focus is in Luanda, and they are in the process of identifying sites, which is challenging given the crowded conditions, limited space, and an estimated population of 10,000,000. The government has asked oil companies to fund the projects. ExxonMobil has funded two schools in the northeast area of Luanda, Cazenga Municipality, and RISE Angola is the implementing partner.
A 7-classroom school was to be built, and an additional 5 classrooms were funded to help meet the enormous need for out-of-school children in the area. The 12-classroom school is currently under construction and will accommodate approximately 1,000 students upon completion. This is a very congested part of Luanda with limited space, but will be a welcome addition. There will also be an administrative block, water reservoir, guardhouse, sports court, cafeteria, and enclosure wall around the perimeter.
