overview
Chongoroi is bordered by 4 municipalities, and is a very dry area where cattle is raised. During the war, people moved toward the city of Benguela, hoping to take refuge near the airport. When peace returned, there was an effort to establish clinics and schools, creating a ripple effect in which people began to move back to their villages.
The village of Kavinjiliti is a 35 minute drive north of Vinama. A small clinic was set up as well as makeshift classrooms made of sticks. This was one of the five areas in which construction on a 3-classroom school was started in 2013, but never completed. RISE was approached by the Chongoroi Administrator with a request for partnership to finish the school – RISE committed to move forward to help. The school was finished and dedicated in September 2019 – the Ministry of Education, local officials, teachers, students, and the community are thrilled and grateful!
