overview
Since 2012, BP Angola has been a generous and valued partner. BP Angola committed to fund two schools, one in Kwanza Norte and one in Benguela. Cassualala is in the Massangano neighborhood of the Cambambe Municipality. The first stone was laid in January and construction began. The 8-classroom school will give about 600 kids access to education! Construction continued throughout the pandemic and was completed, with desks, chalkboards, and furnishing.
The school was dedicated on February 4, a holiday in Angola, which marks the beginning of the struggle for independence from Portugal in 1961. Mr. Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, Provincial Governor of Kwanza Norte, cut the ribbon, and RISE Angola made the symbolic delivery of the keys. A guided tour of the facilities highlighted the administrative block, meeting and classrooms, bathrooms and the sports court equipped with all the necessary materials for its operation. The event included speeches by the Governor, a student, the community, and RISE (though limited because of COVID-19), thanks to BP Angola and its partners for financing the project and to RISE Angola for its implementation. Immense gratitude for the school was expressed, especially during the phase of the pandemic, and a commitment to take care of the school and all materials, preserved for future generation. Children are excited to attend!
