Parents were desperate for education for their children – with no school, classrooms, bathrooms, or clean water, and the government unable to help, they contributed money to build 5 classrooms. Funds ran out and hundreds of kids had to meet under trees or remain without access to education. Teachers shared the hardship – when it rains or is windy or cold, there is no class and children suffer.

An application for funding was submitted to BP Angola, and approval was granted for RISE to build an 8-classroom school, as well as complete the classrooms started by the community, totaling 13 classrooms. The school is in a beautiful setting, with offices, bathrooms, and a basketball court. Additionally, a well was funded by Willow Creek North Shore and BP, bringing clean water throughout the site.

The school was dedicated on August 2, 2019, with joyful celebration. Administrators and Ministry of Education officials, BP Angola President and representatives, RISE Angola, the community, parents, teachers and over 1000 students participated.
