Mutundo, Kwawa, Fatima and Cacilhas Norte are locations where parents and the community, desperate for education for their kids, contributed funds to build classrooms since the government is not in a position to do so. The Municipal Director of the Ministry of Education met the team at Mutundo, and again at Kwawa – a man who seems to truly work for the good of the people, and to give kids access to education. The Principal of Kwawa is dynamic and their gratitude is powerful. The school area is large, with over 5000 kids, but classrooms for only 1000, meaning hundreds are under trees or have no option. There were lots of kids, class amidst construction, and enormous interest and excitement.
Six classrooms had been started, and RISE completed those and added 6 more. Students were enrolled and the classrooms were used during construction, and until schools were closed in March in response to the pandemic. Construction is complete.
