overview

An hour drive from the main road lies the village of Vianja – a remote, hard to access, beautiful area. The school principal was born in Vianja and attended a small school in the village made of sticks. He went into the military, and those in the village all dispersed in the midst of war. He came back to work and raise his family. In 2013, construction of a 3-classroom school was started as part of the initial fight against poverty, but the government ran out of funds. Five years later, the Chongoroi Administrator contacted RISE, and RISE committed to finish the school.

The school was completed and dedicated in September 2019, and the community is truly grateful for this dream come true in a place where they had felt forgotten. Vianja has a health post and house for teachers and nurses since the village is far from the town of Chongoroi.
